The Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte sweepstakes are over. Both Pittsburgh Pirate players were dealt to New York Yankees in a deal that fetched Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf, and two other minor-leaguers.
Nady, 29, is batting .330 with 13 home runs and 57 RBI this season. This will be the second stint in New York for the lifetime .281 hitter, as Nady spent part of 2006 with the Mets.
Marte has posted a 3.47 ERA in 47 relief appearances this season and has struck out 47 in 46.2 innings of work. Marte was part of the 2005 world champion Chicago White Sox. He has tallied a 3.21 ERA over the course of his nine-year career.
