The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired Joe Blanton from the Oakland Athletics for prospects Adrian Cardenas, Josh Outman, and Matthew Spencer.
Blanton, 27, is 5-12 with a 4.96 ERA this season. Last year, the burly right-hander went 15-10 with a 3.95 ERA in 230 innings. He will join a Phillies' rotation that consists of Cole Hamels, Kyle Kendrick, Jamie Moyer, and Adam Eaton. J.A. Happ also made an appearance in the rotation and pitched two games earlier in the month, but was sent back down to the minors. There is a chance that he might be called back up and Eaton get moved.
Cardenas, a second baseman, was considered one of Philadelphia's top prospects. He was batting .309 with four homers, 23 RBI, and 16 stolen bases in the Class A Advanced Florida State League.
